Redirects

Redirection keeps the site’s redirects, its groups and its 404 log. The agent lists, creates and changes redirects through Redirection’s own REST API, so Redirection’s checks and permissions run as they do in its own screen. Nothing touches your server config unless you ask for an Apache or Nginx export.

When a URL moves

Three changes move a published address: renaming a page’s slug, moving a page under a new parent, and changing a content type’s permalink base. After each one, Delta tells the agent the old and the new address. The agent proposes the redirect in one line and makes it only when you agree.

“Rename the Services page to What we do, and redirect the old address.”

A page moved under a new parent moves its child pages too; the agent proposes one redirect for each. With Redirection’s URL Monitor switched on, Redirection makes these redirects itself and the agent has nothing to propose.

The agent never creates a redirect by itself, never redirects an address that is still a live page, and never chains one redirect into another.

After a rebuild

The 404 log holds every address visitors requested that had no page. Grouped by address, most hit first, it is the list to work down after a rebuild: a redirect for each real address, nothing for bots and noise. An empty log with logging off means nothing, so the agent checks the setting first.

“Which addresses got a 404 this week, most hit first? Propose a redirect for each real one.”

Groups

Redirects live in groups. One group per job, such as Rebuild 2026, keeps a rollback simple: switch the group off and every redirect in it stops. Deleting a group deletes its redirects, and Redirection keeps no trash, so the agent exports first and prefers switching off to deleting.

Export

The agent can export the redirects as JSON (Redirection’s own restore format), CSV, Apache or Nginx rules, or a Netlify-style redirects file for a host that redirects before WordPress.

Two plugins with redirects

SEOPress PRO and SureRank Pro keep redirects of their own. The agent checks the other list before it creates one, so an address is not redirected twice.

Delta can install Redirection. Needs version 5.10 or newer, and Redirection’s own setup must have run once; until then the agent tells you to open Redirection’s screen.

For developers

Abilities, category delta-redirection: delta/redirection-list-redirects, get-redirect, create-redirect, update-redirect, delete-redirects, list-groups, create-group, update-group, delete-groups, list-404s, list-log, export, get-settings and update-settings. update-settings writes only the URL Monitor keys (monitorTypes, monitorGroupId).

A write that moves a URL answers with the warning slug_changed (an entry) or rewrite_base_changed (a content type), carrying the old and new address and redirect: monitor (Redirection made it, with redirectId) or suggested (the warning carries the ability and the exact input to call). redirection_not_set_up means Redirection’s setup has not run. get-design-context.redirection reports setup, groups, defaultGroup, monitor, log404 and alsoRedirecting.
