An ability fails

When an ability call fails, Delta returns a stable error code and a plain message. The message is written for the agent as much as for you, and the common codes tell you what happened and what to do next.

Since Delta 0.4.0 every refusal also says what to do next, in the message itself.

The four common codes

Code What it means What to do
21press_delta_ability_disabled The ability is switched off in Delta → Abilities. Turn it back on, or tell the agent to work another way. No reconnect needed.
21press_delta_forbidden The connected account lacks a WordPress capability (the message names it). Connect with an administrator account, or leave the action restricted.
21press_delta_invalid_input The agent sent a field the ability doesn’t accept. The message names the field. The agent recovers by re-reading the ability schema (get-ability-info). Repeat the request.
21press_delta_missing_identifier The request did not identify which page or template was meant. Repeat the request naming the page by title or URL.

Requests that wait for you

Since Delta 0.4.2 a few requests stop and wait for your decision in wp-admin. See Approvals. These are the codes the agent sees.

Code What it means What to do
21press_delta_confirmation_required The request waits for your approval. Nothing ran. Open the link the agent gives you, or Delta → Approvals, and approve or deny. Then tell the agent to go ahead.
21press_delta_confirmation_pending The agent tried again before you decided. Decide on Delta → Approvals.
21press_delta_confirmation_denied You denied the request. Nothing. Ask for something else.
21press_delta_confirmation_invalid The approval was used already, is older than 15 minutes, or does not match the request. Ask the agent to request it again.
21press_delta_owner_setting The agent tried to change a setting only you can change: a guardrail, the agent connection, the approval step. Change it yourself under Delta → Context → Guardrails, if you want it changed.
21press_delta_plugin_needed The request needs a plugin that is not installed. Let the agent ask to install it. That request waits for your approval.

Integration abilities

Abilities that come from an integration (forms, content types, WooCommerce) also fail when their plugin is deactivated. They only exist while the plugin is active. Reactivate the plugin and they come back automatically.

A disabled ability still appears in the agent’s ability list, marked as disabled, so the agent can report that it is off.
