Connect an agent

Connections are set up on one screen: Delta → Connect. You need to be logged in as an administrator. We limited connections to administrators because a connected agent can change most of the site, and that decision should sit with the person responsible for it.

Step 1: pick a method

  • MCP (recommended): for Claude.ai, ChatGPT, Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, Antigravity, GitHub Copilot, and VS Code. A live connection, authorized through your own WordPress login.
  • API: for chat tools that can’t speak MCP but can make HTTP requests. Delta generates a ready-to-paste brief with a token included.

Step 2: connect your client

Copy the MCP Server URL shown on the screen, then open the tab for your client. Each one lists the steps for that client:

  • Claude.ai: add a custom connector, paste the URL, click Connect, and approve on your WordPress login screen. The connection is authorised through your WordPress login, so no password is copied anywhere.
  • Cursor: a Connect in Cursor button opens Cursor with the server prefilled; you then authorize in the browser. An Application Password config is also available.
  • Claude Code: a terminal command, shown ready to copy. Then run /mcp in Claude Code, select the server, and approve the sign-in in the browser. An Application Password config is also available.
  • Desktop IDE clients (Windsurf, VS Code, GitHub Copilot, Antigravity): Delta generates the Application Password and a ready-to-paste config. It is shown once, so copy it right away. Generating again replaces the old one.

Step-by-step guides per client: Claude Code, Cursor, Claude Desktop.

Step 3: verify the connection

Ask the agent to “look at {connector name} and tell me what’s there”, using the name you gave the connection. The agent reads its Delta briefing, checks the design system, and reports back. If it does, the connection works.

Managing connections

The Existing Auth Tokens card on Delta → Connect lists every connection. Each row has a label that shows its type: MCP, OAuth, or API.

Click Revoke on a row to remove that access. It takes effect at once, and there is no confirmation step, so check the row before you click. For an OAuth client, such as Claude.ai, Revoke removes all of that client’s tokens. Toggling abilities on or off never requires reconnecting.

If a cloud client cannot connect

Some hosts block the discovery URLs cloud agents need (the Connect screen warns you when this is the case). Switch to API mode, or ask your host to allow /.well-known/ paths.

For developers: endpoints

What Where Auth
MCP server /wp-json/21press-delta/mcp OAuth or Application Password; administrator account
OAuth discovery /.well-known/oauth-authorization-server None
Agent REST API /wp-json/21press-delta-agent/v1: GET /bootstrap, GET /instructions, GET /capabilities, POST /actions/{tool} (the four gateway tools) Authorization: Bearer token from the Connect screen; rate-limited
