Skills, rules, and guardrails

The agent’s behavior on your site is steered by three kinds of context, all managed under Delta → Context.

Skills

Skills are playbooks for one kind of work. The agent loads a skill when the task calls for it. Delta ships a default set; each site holds its own copy, so you or the agent can edit them, add new ones, or restore the defaults. The agent asks for confirmation before it changes an existing skill. The set changes between releases as we learn what agents need; the table below is the set at the time of writing.

Skill Purpose
onboarding Set up a new site: site basics, design system, and templates.
build-from-prompt Build a new site from a written brief.
clone-from-url Recreate a live site from its URL (requires a browser tool).
build-from-visual Build from screenshots, mockups, or Figma exports.
change-design-system Bring your own design system, or go back to Delta’s seed.
design Change design tokens, site CSS, components, or notes.
components Define and maintain design-system components.
build-site-templates Build the basic templates: header, footer, single, archive, search, 404, loop item, comments, and shop templates with WooCommerce.
blog-and-conditions Set up blogs, archives, singles, and CPT listings.
content-types Custom post types and fields through a supported plugin.
contact-forms Contact forms through a supported plugin.
woocommerce Shop, product, cart, and checkout work.
wordpress-objects Users, comments, terms, meta, options, plugins.
front-panel Work with what you select in the Front panel, and show you a part of the page.
polish-and-verify Visual, spacing, and accessibility finish pass.
troubleshooting Failure diagnosis and support reports.
about-delta Answer questions about Delta: what it is, the docs, help, and what’s new.
seo Search titles, descriptions and share tags, through SureRank or SEOPress.
redirection Redirects when a URL moves, and the 404 log, through Redirection.
static-export What a static copy keeps and loses, and the export through Simply Static.
automaticcss Read and change Automatic.css settings when it is the design system.
acss-mapping The map from Delta’s seed names to Automatic.css names, for a switch.
schemawp Run SchemaWP’s own Automatic.css tools through Delta.
session-router Internal: picks the right skill on ambiguous requests.

Rules

Rules are short constraints that always apply, with the same editing model as skills. Delta ships eight on a plain site, and a ninth appears when WooCommerce is active. They include:

  • site-context: what the site is and how it speaks. You fill it in, or the agent fills it in during onboarding with your approval.
  • design-system-map: the active design system’s names, one line per job, such as page background or text.
  • css-tokens: every CSS value comes from the design system, with no hard-coded colours.
  • memory-logging: the agent records what a session decided in Memory and marks open items.
  • entry-html-no-loops: no {{#posts}} in page HTML.
  • semantic-accessible: landmarks, heading order, and accessible labels.
  • ability-footguns: export before an import, a replace or a delete; the moves that are hard to undo.
  • session-routing: on a site that already has a design, the agent picks the right skill before it starts.

When an agent changes one

When an agent edits a rule or a skill, or makes a new one, the Context screen lists it under Changed by an agent until you keep it or undo it. See Changed by an agent panel.

Guardrails

Guardrails belong to the theme. You can switch each one on or off under Context → Guardrails, but their text is not editable, by you or by the agent. Most of them make the agent ask before sensitive actions. One, under Enforced By Site, is not a request to the agent but a stop: the site holds the call until you approve it on Delta → Approvals.

Guardrail Effect
Session protocol Sets the required call order at session start.
Design scope Decides when a session includes design work.
List paging Keeps reads paged instead of full-catalog dumps.
Layer hierarchy Prefers design system → components → templates over one-off styles.
WordPress and Delta truth Cross-layer facts the agent must respect.
Prefer design tokens over magic numbers Design tokens over hard-coded values.
Verify before done Read back and check after every meaningful write.
Design notes Ask before changing the design-system notes, before a snapshot restore (which overwrites them), or before a design pack reset.
Confirm primary guideline changes Ask before changing existing skills or rules.
Confirm plugin installs Ask before installing, activating, updating, or deleting plugins. With the extra security layer on, the site holds the call too.
Destructive care Confirm before replace or fan-out operations.
Extra security layer (Enforced By Site) Plugin installs, accounts that run the site and settings that open it wait for your approval in wp-admin. On by default. See Approvals.
